A Santa in the Making
Dave Cuellar works as a UPS customer counter clerk, but his real passion is spreading joy year-round. About seven years ago, Dave was encouraged by UPS to step up as a volunteer leader and it inspired him to do more. Now, he organizes a variety of community volunteer projects including an annual toy drive in December. The gifts donated span everything from balls, dolls and blocks to craft supplies, musical instruments, board games and even baby blankets. Every year, Dave and UPS volunteers load the toys into trucks and deliver them to kids in need. Dave’s wish was a simple, but powerful one. He asked for a Santa suit. We granted his wish and watched as Dave magically transformed into Father Christmas.
Father Christmas Comes to Life
Along with a Santa suit of his own, we also surprised Dave with two additional elf costumes. His coworkers, Rebecca Halbritter and Veronica Fernandez, were equally ecstatic to dress up and get into the holiday spirit. Excitement filled the air as they headed out to deliver to the toys to McAllen, Tx. Many of the kids in this neighborhood face significant economic hardships and need a little extra cheer at this time of the year. Dave and his elves couldn’t wait to bring it to them.
Delivering Holiday Spirit
As soon as they pulled into the neighborhood, kids came rushing up to the UPS truck with smiles on their faces. Next, they lined up to receive their gifts while the elves welcomed them. Dave, or rather “Santa”, greeted each and every child with a loving grin and open arms. Some children even wanted their picture with him and the elves. One by one, he handed out a toy to every child. For many, the toy they received that day from Dave will be their only Christmas gift. It’s guys like him that truly make the world a better place.
